The 24th lecture is to be delivered on Plural Paths to Purification by Prof. Christopher Key Chapple on
November 5, 2025.
The lecture explores Jainism’s nuanced understanding of karma and its purification through diverse
disciplines—physical, mental, and emotional. It aims to illuminate how multiple paths within Jain thought converge
toward spiritual refinement and liberation.
The speaker, Prof. Christopher Chapple, is ISJS Advisor, and Doshi Professor of Indic and Comparative
Theology at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles (USA). He has authored numerous works on Indian religions, ecology,
and non-violence, with a special focus on Jainism, Yoga, and Buddhism.
The session chair Dr. Shugan C Jain is Founder and President of ISJS. He is BE, MS, MA, and PhD and has
worked as a Management and Information Technology consultant and entrepreneur in the USA, the Netherlands, and
India. Dr. Jain has authored / edited 10 books and has published more than 50 papers. He has delivered lectures worldwide on Jainism. By founding
ISJS, he introduced academic studies of Jainism and Prakrit in global universities.
